Fall is here! The Teddy Bears learned about fall
leaves and fall colors. They made their own fall leaves that hung
in the classroom to set the mood for fall. We also talked about
squirrels and nuts. We took a trip over to the walnut tree in the
front lawn to check for squirrels looking for food. The children
helped picked up some walnuts off the ground.
In celebration of harvest, we learned about pumpkins. We talked
about how and where they grow. The children painted a picture of
a pumpkin on the easel board. We sang songs about pumpkins. Then
the day to visit the pumpkin patch arrived. We had our Harvest Festival
in the front lawn where we played games, had face painting, wagon
ride, ate snack and picked a pumpkin to take home. Big thanks to
all parents who participated and made this event successful. The
children truly enjoyed it and had a great time. Thank you! ?
This month’s Bible story is on Noah and the Ark. We talked
about how God does not like people doing no-no’s (or sin).
In the story, the children learned that God sent a great flood to
the earth and told Noah to build an ark. Animals came in two by
two and in the end, God sent a rainbow – a sign of His promise.
The children painted pictures of an ark, Noah, and two animals of
their choice. We had fun singing “Oh Be Careful” and
“Rise and Shine.”
For Halloween, we carved a pumpkin that the children picked what
face to have. As a sensory experience, they also helped pull the
seeds and pulp out. We made jack-o-lanterns by cutting straight
lines on orange paper. Then we added the eyes, nose and mouth. We
also made Halloween bags by doing marble painting and putting on
foam stickers on big brown paper bags. The children dressed up for
the parade and we played games like fishing game, football throw,
and pumpkin-hula-hoop toss. The children received prizes for games
and treat bags to take home.
During Red Ribbon Week, we also talked about eating healthy. We
encouraged the children to bring a healthy lunch that they will
eat together with the first graders. Moreover, everyone wore red
to school that day.
In November, we will explore themes on family, friends and thankfulness.
