2nd Grade Classroom Report – February 12

The second graders finished reading their first book, Slide Down the Sky and moved quickly onto the second book, From Sea to Shinning Sea. In this book students will learn about the first people that lived in North America, about our early explorers and brave pioneers, and how the United States grew to become the country it is today. It is a great book and it is going to be lots of fun!

This past Thursday we celebrated our 100 days in school and we had an amazing celebration! The second graders memorize and illustrated a poem with 100 animals. Each student had 10 animals to illustrate to match their part of their poem. Everyone enjoy working on this project. All the presentations were great! So much fun!

For the annual Spell-a-thon contest all my students studied their 100 words vigorously. They rose to the challenge and did an excellent job scoring nothing less than a 98%. I am very proud of them! Thank you to all of the parents who helped their children study for the test.

For religion the second graders have been learning that God guides everyone to Jesus, the importance of reading God’s words and building a relationship with God through prayer. The importance of being baptized and that we are baptized with water and God’s words. Later we’ll learn about being Jesus’ friend and how to work together for God as followers of Jesus.

February is Black History Month, and we will be reading about famous African Americans and their achievements, as well as making a timeline of historical events and accomplishments. We will also be learning about our Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. And we will also be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a classroom party. This month promise to be an exciting and fun month, just perfect for learning.
