                              KINDERGARTEN NEWS

August 30, 2010

Dear Parents,

Last week found us easing into the school year as we reviewed safety rules and learned/practiced our fire drill and earthquake procedures.  This week, we will learn what it means to be a good listener and how to be a good friend.

EMERGENCY BACKPACKS:  Remember to send the back pack to school tomorrow.

INDIVIDUALIZED HOMEWORK:  I’ve decided to send reading homework home this week on Friday after our Parents’ Information Night.  I feel it will be helpful to all to review the process of our reading program before sending it home with the students.

SPECIAL FOLDERS:  Please empty the special folder nightly.  Discuss the schoolwork in there and give your child plenty of praise and encouragement for the work he/she has done.

BIG BROTHERS/SISTERS:  Once again our “Kinder buddies” are the third/fourth graders.  During the first week of school, they became acquainted with each other.  Our big brothers/sisters hold our hands as we walk to-and-from Chabot College on fieldtrip days.  In the past, we have created art projects, shared special meals, wrote books, and played the precorders/recorders together.  There are many fun projects planned for this school year.

DRESS CODE:  Please pay close attention to the dress code.  When you are conscientious of the dress code, it allows me to focus on teaching.  Socks have become problematic.  Please remember they should be plain, solid colors, and NOT the ankle/low-cut style.  Earrings for girls should be the post style and not the dangling ones.  If you are unsure of what is dress code standard, you may check with any teacher at Lea’s.

CHAPEL:  Each Wednesday mornings, the K-4th students assemble in the chapel to learn about God.  During this time, an offering is collected so that we may help people that are less fortunate than we are.  In the past, the school has sent money to help inoculate children in third world countries, given money to help in our community, to take care of animals/the earth, and have helped many other organizations through the generous offerings that you give your child to put in the offering basket.  I will remind the students about bringing an offer for chapel on Tuesday mornings.  Let’s create the “spirit” of giving in your child.  Any amount will be a blessing to the people that are in need.  God bless you!

SEESAW/SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS:  The September book order went home today with the kindergartners.  By purchasing books from the book club, our class is able to receive free books and posters.  Not to mention, this is a great way to buy age-appropriate books for your child.  If you are planning to buy books, the form and money are due at school by Friday, September 3, 2010.

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT, THURSDAY at 7:00 PM:  It is very important that every child in my class have a parent attend this meeting.  I will present everything you need to know to make this year a successful one for your child.  Kindergarten is full of challenges for students and parents alike.  With teamwork between school and home, your child will have a successful year in kindergarten.  There will be no childcare on this evening, please plan according if you must find a sitter.

If you have any questions, please write me a note, and I will get in touch at recess times or after school via the telephone.

Thanks a bunch!

Sincerely,

Melva Bland
