February was quite a busy month. We celebrated Chinese
New Year with our little Teddy Bear brothers and sisters. On that
same afternoon, we had root-beer floats and brownies for dessert
for our Valentine’s party. We also enjoyed all the 100 days
of school activities. Our favorite project was to string 100 Cheerios
and eat them afterwards.
In reading everyone is in the first hard covered book. In Rainbow
Bridge, there are non-fiction stories and a couple of challenging
poems. Students will memorize the famous tongue twister “Betty
Botter”. I am quite sure by the end of the first grade the
parents will also know how to recite the poem! The students are
also learning how to use the dictionary daily to look up their vocabulary
words.
In math we will finish the chapter on counting to 100. In the
next chapter we will concentrate on place values, data, and graphs.
In social studies and science: During the month of February the
first graders continued with their social studies unit. They learned
about the fifty states in the United States of America. They learned
about various presidents. They also learned about the flag and various
important places in Washington D.C. To end the unit, they learned
about Black American History.
I want to thank each and every one of you who prayed for my sister’s
recovery. The bone marrow transplant will take place after they
find the right match donor. Let us pray that she will find one very
soon.
Thank you,
Ms. Ho
